Home is where babies are born
Is homebirth right for me?
If you are here, you have probably been asking yourself the question βIs Midwifery care and homebirth right for me?β. It just might be! A major consideration in choosing your provider and birth setting is the type of experience you are hoping for. In the midwifery model care you form a personal and trusting relationship with your midwife. The goal is always informed decision making and autonomy. As a care provider it is not my job to tell you what to do, rather to give you all your options so you can make the best decision for you, your baby and your family.
Many also wonder if homebirth is safe, in a society where hospital birth has become the norm, it is a very reasonable question to ask. Homebirth is a safe and viable option for many families with low risk factors and high desire to birth at home. Many families choose homebirth due to the desire for a low intervention birth in a setting in which they feel comfortable, with a provider they know and trust. Evidence shows that most people will labor and birth best in an environment that is familiar and safe to them, allowing for the physiological process of birth to unfold, undisturbed, unhurried and patiently monitored by a trained professional. Evidence also shows that in the United Sates around 90% of people who plan to birth at home will, without need for transport or hospital based care and when hospital based care is desired or needed it is often non emergent.
